I need help. One of my two week old Jersey Giant girls is constipated and it is heartbreaking hearing her straining and hurting. I tried putting her bum in a tub of warm water for a while, but it didn't help. She pecks and cleans at it after she strains, but I haven't seen her get anything real out today. The past couple days, it was uncomfortable for her, but poop was coming out. She is still eating and I think drinking and walking around. They have been getting Purina Flock Strong probiotics/vitamins in their water at least every other day. Please help me help my little girl.

I finally found a vet that would see her and rushed her there this morning. She was constipated. She actually dislodged some of the plug when I picked her up to take her, then pooped a huge pile of dry poop on the way to the vet, then another poop while we were with the tech, and then ANOTHER poop after they gave her an enema and fluids. She's on anti-inflammatories for the next ten days and I'm madly trying to get a "hospital" area set up for her that's appropriate for her and the friend I put in with her. Watching the tech struggle to get the anti-inflammatories in her did not make me feel confident that I'd be able to do it myself.

How did your chick fare? I’m dealing with the same thing.

She's doing wonderfully now. I took the sandpit that the brooder plate was under and removed it and just gave them a small sandbox off to the side for dust bathing to try to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else. The ten days of twice a day Meloxicam for pain and inflammation wasn't the most fun, but totally worth it to me to have Cordelia healthy and happy.
