Yes they get quite large and come down on one or both sides of the egg
Yep that's what I've seen, didn't realise those and/or detached air cells could still result in a viable hatch. However every time I have seen them it's been either in freshly laid eggs, or incubated eggs which were clearly no longer alive. Never seen an egg with a detached or saddlebag air cell and a moving duckling. However I've never used shipped eggs so that might be why.
So how many of your successfully hatched chicks so far have hatched from detached or saddlebag air cells?

This was my first experience with shipped eggs or saddle shaped air cells. I started with 23 eggs, 6 never developed, 3 quit early, 14 made it to lockdown, one died in egg after pipping, and 9 hatched (I had to assist 2 of them)

Here is a good example. I had at several saddles out of my shipped eggs. One hatched, but need a little help at the end. One made it to lockdown, but died before pipping. The others were early blood rings.

Thanks for updating. I have 9 remaining out if 26 shipped eggs. Most have large saddled air cells. I have been incubating them in cartons, and I did not tilt my incubator for the first 24-48 hours. Can't remember now. I am on day 15, and very worried about lock down in cartons. Some lay saddled air cells on their sides. So I am torn. But I spent so much on these eggs, I need as many to hatch as I can get!
