Please Help Determine the Fate of this Rhode Island Red... Hen or Roo?

My partner and I are sitting here shedding tears.

We knew a day like this would come, just not so soon.
Before even one egg we have to look at options of dispatching one of our first chickens! Sigh.

Any thoughts on best options? Give him away, stew pot, petting zoo?

George is gorgeous! If he's purebred, why not try to sell him for $5 to someone who might want to breed him? Sort of put him out to stud!

Nice looking bird too. Sell him or give him away to someone who would appreciate a nice pure bred roo for thier hens. Roos are very important in a flock.

Ginger Man is very handsome and needs to be advertised as wonderful and committed guy looking for a long term relationship with single, red haired girls, preferably from Rhode Island Try Craigslist or a local feed store bulletin board, I love my roosters and would have lost many hens and chicks from ravens if not for my handsome and dedicated roos placing themselves in front of danger, selflessly!

I would definitely try to find him a home. There was someone on my local craigslist looking for a RIR. You never know what someone might be looking for!

That is a rooster, no doubt. And the spurs wont grow till around 8 or 9 months old.

And in some individuals, it takes 2-3 years to reach that "scary" 2 inch long talon like spur, and all they have is a pathetic knob for a spur. But that sure is a boy!
