Please help!!! Dog got one of my chickens :(

If she was the top hen then they will be at her until she is either returned to the top by fighting for it or she submits to a lower place. I would not re-introduce her until she is back to 100%. she will have to fight to get her place back!

Good luck and God Bless!

Geez guys!! This is all excellent EXCELLENT stuff!! Thank you so much!! My father is coming out to the farm today to build a stronger fence around the coup. As for the neighbors dog.. well I think I may tie up my dogs closer to the coup, as they are very protective of my hens

I will def keep a close eye on her when I put her back in with the other chickens... I couldn't believe how quickly they turned on her!!

Thanks again everyone! I know I'll have more questions in the days to come ... just a lil pre warning jeje

Thankyou!! When you say "fighting" do you mean they will actually fight???? Sorry if its a stupid question, I'm really new to this

I too went through a massacure 1 year ago - but with my own dog! Chickens and dogs appeared to really get along. first mistake - I left for town was away 2 hours, returned to feathers and bodies everywhere. Once a dog, your's or your neighbor's, get's the taste and "feels the fun" of the chase it's pretty much non-reversable. My surviving chickens were "emotional" for some time. I still only let them out when I'm home. Keep your hen with you inside until she is completely healed. Then reintroduce her back to the flock at night, not during the daytime. Chickens are pretty dumb at night and if the wake up to "another one" are more apt to accept it better.

WOW!! Good advice... yeah I haven't left my dogs alone with them yet and by the sounds of it, I don't think I ever will!! Oh and thanks for that, I will introduce her at night.. I'll make it a weekend so I can keep an eye on her throughout the day.

Sorry to hear about your chickens

You might run a hot wire around the bottom of the enclosure to discourage any possible digging. Hope your girl is back to 100% soon.

Before my chicken died from a raccoon attack, someone here recommended aspirin water. She perked up amazingly. I imagine it would help your girl because I bet she is very sore. One aspirin dissolved in a gallon of water. Use the aspirin water for her water. Really seemed to help Cookie a lot. I made sure the water wasn't cold - it was room temp.

Red gatorade (electrolytes) seemed her favorite though. I used an eyedropper and she opened her mouth for it. Helps with the stress.

Thanks heaps Hen Momma and Mule Chick
