I asked a friend who raised chickens how many time I should turn my eggs he said once a day I listened because he was a successful chicken farmer. It is day 9 and the chick seems to be on the side or horizontal if the egg was on its side. Is there anything I can do or do they have no chance?

I'm sorry I have never incubated eggs but, you have been given a link that will be of much help to you.

No way to tell until you get to the end. :hu

Start turning a minimum of 3 times a day. 5 times is great. You want to aim for an odd number of turns.

If the egg is now not wanting to stay on the other side, and not let you rotate... I would use an egg carton or something to force it to stay in different positions, and try to avoid the one it wants to roll into.

:welcome

Good link from Pork Pie Ken and good advice from Alaskan. When a broody sits on eggs, she'll move them around a lot more than once a day.

Best of luck with your hatch!

X2.... 3 or 5 times daily. The reason for the odd number of turns is so that the eggs are not resting on the same side for prolonged periods each night. I have always had auto-turners (set to every 45-60 mins) so I can't say from experience whether yours will be ok but I certainly hope so. Please come back and let us know how you get on. Oh and :welcome. I hope you enjoy the site :D
