Please help Flower - mucus, limp, raspy breathing *pics*

Monday morning update:

I propped her up last night before I went to bed, and this morning she has herself up and holding up her head. Her legs are still sticking out the back...she can't seem to get them to do what she wants. Her mouth feels a bit drier today as well.

She has been able to swallow 1 mL at a time of the water/corn syrup/Benadryl mixture that I gave her last night. So far today I haven't given her anything. I haven't tried feeding her yet today. I have baby oatmeal and can fix a hard-boiled egg to see if she'll eat some of that. Still not standing, let alone walking. No droppings yet since I found her. Her crop still has food in it...about the size of a ping pong ball. It's grainy feeling...like it's full of scratch or her crumbles. I'll try feeding her in a bit here, after I get my kids settled.

I wonder if the leg paralysis is from the scorpion bite. I remember that post that said that it took a while for his rooster to be able to stand. Anyway, it sounds like she is doing better, how is her breathing. I think there are some posts that talk about propping up chicks so their legs hang instead of sticking out. I wonder if a deep bowl or something like that with a towel in it might be easier on her?

Evening update:

Flower is still sitting up a bit...holding her head up, but her legs still won't do just what she wants them to do. Every few hours, I shift her legs around to try to get some circulation going. Earlier today she wouldn't touch her food on her own, so I had to use a small syringe to give her a bit at a time. Tonight I mixed up some turkey grower with water to a baby food consistency and tried to feed her some of that. First I showed her where it was by sticking the tip of her beak into it (the way you'd do with a new chick or poult) and she tried to get a bite by herself, but couldn't quite control her head well enough to do it.

My husband asked me how far I wanted to go with Flower, and I decided that I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing and hope for the best. If she starts going downhill and seems to be suffering, then we'll alleviate that situation for her. Until then...we are hoping for the best and she has my 4 year old praying for her.

One more thing...

I felt her crop to see if it was empty. It still has food in it. Is that normal?

well...in her weakened state...sometimes the system slows down..especially the crop.
could be from laying down.
best to keep her hydrated and
give a little oil..and massage the crop feeling to see if it is breaking up..see if that helps.

also give some plain active culture yogurt..
a little apple cider vinegar in water.(1/8 tablespoon per cup of water)
any possibility her problem is not a sting and she's weak from impacted crop?
re-check in the morning before she eats..see if it is empty.

maybe a sling would help..like a bandanna or face mask..(vent clear)
so she's not sitting on her legs.
make sure her vent is clean..

try and get some Poly-vi-sol..no iron..3 drops on beak once a day.
and Vitamin E..

offer soft foods, such as soft moist scrambled egg.

Morning update:

It's looking good for Flower! She has made a lot of improvements since last night. She's back to eating and drinking on her own, her crop isn't as large, and she's pooping like crazy! So, at least her digestive tract is working again. She is also trying to move around, and clucking away!

I'm so happy that she's doing so well. At this rate, she may be ready to go back with the rest of the flock tomorrow!

I just saw your thread today! I'm so glad Flower is doing better!

We live out in Mesa and have seen scorpions around our place, not recently though (I'm thankful for that!). Glad you stuck with it! She sounds as if she's well on her way back to her normal self!
