Please help her out... Who did it? (UPDATE P.2)

If you are having a had time deciding to get rid of him do as the previous poster said - seperate him for a while. I had two drakes that were really breeding aggressive. So Id let my oldest nice drake stay out and free range with the girls and lock the other two up. Eventually they followed the girls around instead of pushing them around

He's trying to attack her and the ducklings now through the other pen. He's with my two original girls and then she is in a dog cage inside the pen with the ducklings. He keeps trying to bite the babies and her.

Just wondering: how long will it take for her feathers to grow back and how often should I apply the neosporin?

I would apply neosporin a couple times a day for a few days. Till you see scabbing. That's a good sign. The feathers grow back surprisingly fast. Youmay see new growth as soon as 5 days if I remember correctly. Good luck.

Thank you froggie. I'm worried about her. She was really lathargic this morning. I put her in the water and she started drinking. Around 1 or so, I went to check on her and she was out and about with the ducklings. I gave her and the babies some green beans.I don't think she ever had green beans before. Once she saw the babies eat them, she got the hint and started gobbling them up. It's hilarious to see her all snuggled up with two little crested pekin babies. When I went to pen everyone tonight, I put the babies into their cage and she followed them right in! I thought she might be aggressive with them, but she seemed kind of freaked out about them at first. Now they're all buddies!

I'm glad she has some buddies. I know the worry of a sick/hurt duck. Glad she seems to be improving from the morning. They do bounce back pretty quickly. When our drake was attack by our guinea, he had all his feathers ripped of back of his neck and back and even has a hole on the side of his neck. He look really awful. Very lethargic. Running water with tomatoes (his favorite treat) added was the only way I could get him to drink. I didn't think he would make it, but by the end of the day he was alert and eating.

So, I've been putting neosporin on the wound. It's worse than I though it was originally. She has a chunk about 1 in wide and 1 in tell one her back/side. It's missing the skin and in it, there are two gashes a bit deeper that run the length of it. They look like the drake's nails dug in pretty deep. She is eating and drinking and fairly active, being as she doesn't have a whole lot of room to run around. I'm worried about it getting infected. Plus, she is still developing feathers so the stuff that covers the developing feathers flakes off and into the wound. Any advise on what I should do to help it heal and keep it clean? Shoud I trim away the feathers surround the wound?

I suggested blue or red kote before. That helps protect the area, but a good layer of the neosporin should keep stuff out of the wound as well. If the gashes are deep just make sure you get the neosporin into the wound say with a q-tip or something.

I must have missed that. Sorry! Okay. I might just head over to TSC and get some of the red/blue kote. I just worry about her. She's very good about all my poking and proding. I'm still keeping her separated from the big ducks. Do you think that once the drake is gone, she could go with the other girls, or do you think that they'd pick at it? Also, my rouen hen likes to show her dominance by standing on the other ducks' backs. Do you think that would hurt it? I've never had to deal with this before so I'm all paranoid and nervous... Sorry!

i just had to give away a drake cause he was so mean to my chickens and other duck. i found him a great home and he loves it! Best of luck and i hope she heals quickly!!!
