Please help! I HAVE to amputate my roo's toe! **Graphic pics**

Hi guys..We didnt do it yet. Crazy day here! I had to bring my mother for a day surgery on her leg veins that were blocked. Then when she was almost ready to come home her groin artery that they went in through started to bleed out. There was only one nurse with her at the time..

(the doc and the other nurses were doing another surgery at that time and wer'nt on the floor..)the nurse couldnt take the pressure off her artery and call for help..so the nurse had to ask another patient in the next bed over to push the code button.(how nuts is that!? ) then the doc and nurses came in and were able to stop the bleeding. Thank God!

We still arent sure what to cut it with? We have kitchen shears..some semi-sharp knives (like a butcher knife..)..utility knife. Also, we cant tell if its actually gone through the bone already..or if its just skin keeping it on..its hard to see inside the wound clearly. But it looks like its just flesh and no bone to cut through. maybe the butcher knife with the block of wood method? Also..should we heat up the knife or will soaking it in alcohol sterilize it enough? Maybe we should use kitchen shears?

Good luck, I hope he gets better!

I had a young turkey last fall, not quite full grown, and he was out running around and one of the horses stepped on his leg, and broke it, so the bone went clear through. My dad put duct tape on it, and after about a month, from the knee down fell off.
Then he seemed to be taking a turn for the better, and netting got wrapped around his other leg. I put antibacterial gel in the wound, because it went deep all around his leg. I was too late though, it was infected. What would be the point in me having amputated his other leg, then he wouldn't be able to get around. There was nothing I could've built for him to make it easier, so I had to let him go.

It was a sad day over here.

Henpen, Thanks so much! Tomorrows gonna be another busy day..moms still in the hospital so i'll have to be there with her until (hopefully) they release her sometime in the afternoon, then i'll have to take her home and get her settled..etc. I just sent hubby to Walmart for more betadine and triple antibiotic ointment. We may do this tonight..it needs to be done badly ( i cant keep putting this off). Were just deciding on what to use to do it with. and if we need to heat the kinfe and cauterize it..or can we just snip it with scissors soaked in alcohol.

You could snip it with Kitchen shears(clean with alcohol) but make sure you snip it in the joint....Then use the hot knife to cauterize it

Okay..this may be the way we do it. Trying to work myself up to this task while hubby is at Walmart getting the stuff.
