I have heard that it is sometimes used as a wormer..... therefore better egg production. I use Wazine but a friend of mine uses the pepper and our hens lay about the same.

Edited to add: I really think the heat has the laying slowed down.

I've read about a lady who tried something similar.

She mixed chopped chili and onions in the normal chickens food and fed them in the morning.
She managed to get eggs within a week.

I don't know what the success rate it is but maybe worth a try?

I have heard of Cayenne pepper for worming. Mys sister uses it to keep squirrels away. Squirrels evidently don't like Cayenne.

I use Oats to improve egg laying. Try giving them some oatmeal flakes. Make sure they are getting a lot of water. My 17 Hens are going thru at least 2 gals of water a day, with the heat. When Hot and Dry (not real humid) make it 3 gallons.

Egg making takes a lot of water. If they are not getting enough, they will stop laying. Unfortunately my girls never stopped laying this year for their molt. I wish they would have, they need the rest. Now I have to watch their health.
