Please help identify "mystery" breeds from MPC

Huh... I hadn't thought of that. In that case, perhaps the explanation told to me by MPC has some merit, afterall. They said that 1% of Andalusian chicks start out red but feather in normally; and the red chick did turn out black in the end. Maybe MPC didn't actually botch the order as I had assumed, but simply deals with a hatchery with poor quality birds. (Sorry for doubting you, MPC.)

Oh well, I guess I succeeded in adding egg laying hens to the flock; even if I wouldn't breed these birds myself. I am expecting some hatching eggs from Gabbard Farms, which will hopefully give me much higher quality Andalusians to show and breed.

Thanks, everyone, for helping me figure things out!

I'm thinking your 12 week old andaulsians are cockerels and that's why their combs & wattles are so large. The 16 week old chicks from MPC have small combs because they are pullets.

I now have 4 EE pullets/hens that look just like her. She's not a true ameraucana because she doesn't come in one of the accepted colors - she's actually an easter egger (sold by hatcheries as americanas/ameraucanas - my feedstore had her labeled as an araucana). I don't know what you'd call her color - I just think she's pretty.

The two light blue ones are cockerals, but the white one is a pullet. She has a smaller comb than her brothers, but it's still much larger than the MPC pullets. Her mother and our other Andalusian hen also had a relatively large comb for hens, which is typical of the breed.
