I have three adult hens. Two Sussex and a barred rock.
We slipped a dozen fertile eggs under a broody Sussex and managed to hatch 7, two being trampled to death (the mother is a big girl) and three didn't hatch.
Breeds are Blue Leghorn, Araucana, and Blue laced Wyandotte. We have a random black chicken which didn't match any of the eggs I purchased. Called the breeder and she said it might be a black leghorn?
Any I'm pretty sure the blue Leghorn is a roo. Stands tall, big red comb already. Pretty handsome..
The black one I'm not sure, along side the blue laced Wyandotte. I suspect they are both hens.
I have 4 Araucana's. they all look very similar except that one has distinctive red on his comb, where the others barely have combs at all. I've also seen him/her attempt to peck back at one of the larger Sussex who was being a bully, until he/she was overpowered (rather quickly)
Please tell me if you think the are hens or roos..
This a roo? Blue Leghorn breed.
A black one which we don't know the breed. Ideas? Hen or roo? Breeder said possible Black Leghorn..
Gingernut! Hen?
You can see the red comb on the bottom Araucana here. It's small, but it's the only one that's red.
Here it goes again.
