**Please help** Is a vitamin deficiency killing my hens?

Do you think I should de-worm or use a cocci med first? I have never wormed my flock
I would use Cocci medication first, but you cannot use vitamins with cocci medication, vitamins interfere with the ability of the medication to work. Cocci medication blocks the absorption of Thiamin, parasite needs Thiamin to reproduce. Once reproduction has stopped, and cocci is reducing in numbers, chickens immunity is able to kick in and do the rest.

Ran out and bought some Sulmet, only Cocci med for poultry my local feed store had. Starting that today, if I don't see improvement in 3-5 days do i continue or switch to the Wazine? Is is a bad idea to put them both in the water now?

I'll discontinue the vitamins for now, as well as the ACV in their water.

I really hope this does the trick.....

That is the autopsy result in it's entirety.

The food scraps in the stool were from a pasta and yam treat+vitamin supplement I made for her when she was not eating. She was not a regular consumer of the chicken feed however.

Tell me if any of this makes sense to anyone! If it's hard to read, download it and open from your desktop, and zoom in to read.

Do not use both at the same time.

What this report basically says is that diet is the most probable cause of death. They recommended that you feed chickens, proper nutritional chicken feed which has all the vitamins and minerals that poultry need to stay healthy. This is where the vitamin E deficiency comes in. Were you feeding chickens homemade feed? I do not know what you have your girls on,but i do know that when making your own feed, you run the risk of not supplying all the correct vitamins and mineral. The rest of the report is telling of the condition of her organs, which were in good shape. In short vitamin E deficiency due to lack of proper feed, was probable cause of death in this hen. What i don't know is if the cloaca/vent was examined or the rectum as for the ceca,i would think ceca was examined because it is between the large and small intestines, both of which were checked. I am looking at these organs because some strains of Coccidiosis can reside in rectum, cloaca and ceca. My recommendations are purchase prepared poultry feed appropriate for the age of your girls, give the vitamins to compensate for the vitamin deficiency(but not for long term, only for a short time)and definitely watch for symptoms of cocci,as this has not been ruled out in your other girls.

So I'm back to square one here? Is a chronic vitamin deficiency killing my hens?

I do not make my own feed. The girls eat this feed:
http://www.agwayfeeds.com/agway/en/products/poultry/naturesmart-organic-16-layer-pellet/index.jsp

Concerned that they arent eating it, I bought some of this yeserday:

They have daily kitchen scraps. Should I stop all outside food to encourage pellet consumption?

I am still very concerned for my aracauna pullet. She's still not eating or moving much. I have seen her drink the medicated water. I am concerned because many reviews of sulmet say that I should see results within a few hours. Also, I read that sulmet treats 2/9 tpyes of cocci- but not all types of cocci affect chickens? How many types DO infect chickens? The Corid at my feed store does not say it is for poultry- it is labeled as a bovine product.

I noticed that when my pullet was standing with her eyes closed, her rear end began to drip. Like a leaky faucet. I inspected her, and her vent looks clear, but her butt is very dirty. Pale yellow/white stool stuck around the feathers, but nothing blocking. No smell, no blood. If she were eggbound or constipated, she would'nt be moving at all right? Or at least walking funny or waddling? This pullet still has the energy to roost, she spends a fair amount of time on an outside roosting pole 1 1/2 ft off the ground.

struggling with unknown killer disease also so depressing.
there are 7 or 9 types of coccisiosis depending on what you read. the corid for cows is the one you want though.if it is coccidiosis.
i've lost 8 and no 9 has now become sick....sigh.
i hope you find out what is wrong and can help your chooks...

If I don't see improvement by this evening should I just go out and buy the corid? Or wait for the full recommended 2-3 days? I want to treat for all possibilities but cannot...

I can't stand to lose another hen, especially not one of my aracauna pullets. I have two and those girls are joined at the hip. I'm doing all the research I can online, all 4 of my local feed store owners just shrugged their shoulders, and even the vet supply store had no ideas. My fellow chicken owners don't consider them pets, and have had no epidemics of death that concerned them enough to follow through with treatment.
