I have two Pekin ducks named Bert and Ernie. They are a little older than two years old. My ducks are very healthy other than some missing feathers from occasional fighting(they are both drakes). However, this morning when I woke up and let my ducks out of their house, I noticed Bert was limping. After doing some research on the internet and some duck information books that I have, I am thinking it may be bumblefoot. I have strong intentions of taking him to the vet, but unfortunately the wild bird vet in my area is not open until Monday morning. I would like to keep him as comfortable as possible until then. The balls of his feet as much larger in size than my other ducks(I compared them when they were both standing with their wings to me) Attached is a picture. Please help. ANY information is helpful. Will he continuously get this? Should I invest in duck shoes?

Looks like bumble foot to me! Take your him to the vet and they can prescribe some medications for him.
I hope everything turns out well!!!!!!!! Post an update!

Until you can get to the vet, you can put topical antibiotic ointment on the foot. Clean it just with soap and water, or betadyne in water, or hydrogen peroxide.

Then wipe ointment all over the foot. Some small amount will soak into the foot.

A good soak in clean lukewarm water will probably help, too.

Bumblefoot comes from staph germs that are just about everywhere. A combination of rough walking surfaces or thorns or other sharp objects, and standing dirty water can increase the occurrence of bumblefoot. Even in the best circumstances, someone gets bumblefoot. Catching it early and treating it twice daily until it is gone work for us.
