Please HELP! I've rescued a baby chick!!

Ha ha. If that's your daughter, you are doomed to have chickens. Just look at her face!

Thanks for saving Chester and I know s/he will have a happy home, whether with you or on the farm.

I am beginning to believe that the answer to ANY question is: MORE CHICKENS!!!

Check out the "chicken tractors" section in the "Coop and Run Design" section of this forum... You would not need much space for 2 or 3 chickens... you could add a bantam or two and and not have much noise or mess.... Hens are not too noisy and the eggs are GREAT!!!

CHICKEN KEEPER ENABLERS UNITE!!!!

(God bless you no matter what you decide to do!)

I second envirogirl.....get another chick. Your chick is very young. A week or less.

If you have just one chick and keep just one chick, he/she is going to bond very closely with you and you may have a hard time getting him blended into a flock eventually. Chickens have a very definate pecking order. And someone correctly mentioned, you have to wait to he is an adult to add him with other adults. Otherwise, you have to get another chick his size to put him with, even then you have to watch closely....

...glad you did that.

Oh, and I would replace he with she also. Even more reason to keep her!
Start reading about houses and predatpr proofing!

While we have other chickens, we saved a baby chick from the dead bag at the feed store and raised it alone. (They wouldn't get more banties in as they all died the same day) Pete is now a 4mos. people chicken who loves to hang with us on the porch and follow my daughter around. He will defend his yard from intruding sparrows, chasing them with neck feathers flared. We need to put him in the coop at night as he would rather come in the house, but he doesn't seem to be too mal-adjusted with out others his age. He runs from my hens, but really "loves" my daughters shoes if left on the lawn!
Good luck. There is nothing more fun than watching your peeps in the yard.
My kids are watching an egg hatch as I write, the only egg that seems to be doing anything. Sigh, another single?
