PLEASE HELP ME -ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need help. A wild duck just moved into our pond and she has 1 baby duck, that we know of. We have catfish and bass in our pond that you can stick a fist in and there might be some turtles. My question is this- Do we need to go out there and catch the mom and her baby/babies so they dont get eaten? If so, what type of set up do we need for the ducks because I know that you cant mix chickens ( I have 8 chickens) with ducks. I am working on building a mini coop that I plan on selling that I could use for her. Does anyone have a picture of their duck coop so that I could see what I need to incorporate into the mini coop. Also what care and food will I need to give to the mother and her baby? Any help before 5 o'clock would be gladly appreciated.

I've seen people mix chickens with ducks. How come you can't?

She'll be fine. If the turtle ( is it a snapping ) get's it, then it's the cycle of life, sorry. I'd be surprised if she uses any housing you make for her, she might, but she may also not stick around. I woudn't go to any great lengths to secure her and the baby. Let her be.

I thought you cant mix chickens and ducks together. We dont want her to die or the baby so we could have ducks around. I dont know what I will do yet. I dont know if it is a snapping turtle. Thanx guys- Chickenman8

Leave her alone. It is never a good idea to catch any wild animal and attempt to treat it as a domestic one, especially because, well, there's no reason to (it's not like the ducks are injured or have moved into an undesirable place, such as your swimming pool). It's also probably against the law, and you risk introducing disease to your flock of chickens.

Overall, just a bad idea. I know you don't want the baby to be eaten, but they are wild ducks. This is just the way it is--this is how they live every day (and obviously they aren't extinct yet).

I guess your right but if I need to I will catch her and raise her because there are a lot of predators around here.

I agree I would leave them alone. If you feel like they need some sort of shelter you can put an old dog house or something like that out there. But wild ducks don't have shelters really. They sleep in the brush and other places.

Again, to reiterate what others have said...

UNLESS this is obviously a domestic duck that has found it's way to your pond, then it is a WILD animal.

It may very well be against the law (and probably is...) to take the duck out of the wild and place it in captivity, no matter how noble your desire to protect it. Plus, animals that are not domesticated and not used to being confined or penned don't do well at all in captivity.

Leave the duck alone....

I am wondering after what you said arlee453 because my neighboors 5 doors down have chickens, goats, peacocks and that was about a year ago. It could possibly be one of theirs and i dont know if any other neighboors have ducks.
