Please help me figure out these two strange chickens?

Well, they are young yet......I still have time to decide what to do. I have adult hens, pullets the same age as these two, week old chicks and am about to start a hatch as soon as my eggs arrive...so I HAVE female chickens, I just don't have room to keep more than one roo without fights. I will talk to my mother about taking one, though. She has no roo and said she MIGHT decide to get a roo eventuallly. I really would hate to see them go.

Beautiful boys!! I'm getting a "day old" Lakenvelder" in the mail.. hopefully today! I think they are a GORGEOUS breed!!

I hope you find a way to keep at least one! Maybe build a tractor and set up a breeding trio? If they are getting harder to find you might have a little chick-biz here! (Even though Galaxy is sweeter, if you breed them for purebred chicks I would breed the other one...)

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Don't give up hope on Galaxy being a girl... I was just looking at pictures and this breed has BIG combs and wattles... Even the hen has a sorta big comb... There might be hope?

Thanks, KellyGwen, yeah, I had already thought the same thing about breeding....and that I would pretty much HAVE to use Suzy, even though he isn't quite so nice.

And, as for Galaxy (I swear I didn't name her, my 8 y/o did) I am still holding out hope. I saw a pic of a hen with one serious MASSIVE comb when I was looking at them last night. I don't see how some of those poor roos hold their head up!!! LOL So, even though she is probably a roo, I will wait and see.

Make a bachelor pad if they are both cockerels! That's what I'm doing for my 4 Silver Laced Wyandotte packing-peanut boys.

You know, I have wondered if that really works. Have you had experience with it? I just can't imagine them not fighting but I know people say they don't. I just don't want anyone hurt. I would love to keep every chicken I ever get.

I used to keep a pen full of young roosters and as they matured they would have little spats here and there, but generally unless I added someone everything was relatively peaceful. I guess they all knew there place. Now mixing mature roosters is a whole other basket of eggs and one I wouldn't put in the bator if you know what I mean. That being said though I did have three Black Pendesencas: one pullet and two cockerels. While debating which male to use the boys were together and the pullet was with the creles. The more dominant rooster often treated the less dominant rooster as he would a hen. Let's just say every time he did it, it sounded like the other roo was being slaughtered. He didn't appreciate the other roo's affection. That is the only time I have ever had that happen though.

Welllllllll............Suzy (her name is now George Washington..don't ask, I just live here) started crowing tonight!!! So, so, so cute!!! We all stood around and cheered him on!!! However, Galaxy shows no desire to crow at all, and her comb and wattles actually seem to be getting smaller in comparison to George's. Like maybe Gorge's are getting much bigger and Galaxy's aren't. I am still not giving up hope of her being female!!!
