Please help me! How do I put my chicken down?

Kimmie, how long has she been this way? could it be an injury that could heal at all.

I would watch the video called the 'respectful chicken harvest' which is on you tube if you want to do it yourself. I thought that it seemed more humane than most others or you could bring her to a vet. I know how you feel, I need to put down one of my ducks, but I'm having a hard time doing it

If you or someone else decides to cull her, make sure they use something with a sharp edge like an ax or shovel on a hard surface to break the neck. Do not attempt to try any other method with 100% confidence. The chop is the quickest most humane way possible. Any misshaps with another method will result in the chicken or you suffering or completly stressing out. Goodbluck.

I have had to but a few down over the last 20 years and have found a shotgun or a .22 works well for me. I do wrap the bird in a towel first. I do agree with the last post on the ax as well, but i am always worried i will not do it completely and the bird will suffer. I am a good shot with a gun, dont know about the ax.

this is Jerrey i just put down my little girl to day she had sour crop for 2 months i can not tell you how i feel , Mon i build a little house for her Wed i put her down, i just could not take it anymore i would empty her crop and it would just fill back up, i just loved her SO much but i could not take it any more; i had name her angel and that did`NT help either

I will not be able to do it I know that for sure.

I have dial here in the woods but when I go somewhere with hi-speed I will check that out

That would have to be my husband I don't know how to use a gun. He says he can't do it but he can shot a deer and gut it no problem

times like this is really stinks to have pets. No matter what you do to dispatch of her you are going to feel bad. You sure you dont want someone to try and take her off your hands and rehab her? Or just someone that is able to give her a sustainable life with a handicap?
