I have a very sick ex battery hen (4yrs old) 5/6 months ago she had waterbelly ascites & I ‘drained’ her twice with success- she recovered well…. Two days ago I noticed her wattles dry & blue so brought her inside & gave her TLC she eat & drunk but today she can’t stand & is panting (beak open constantly) please help us - just don’t know what to do?
I don’t have a vet that treats birds 😔

Thank you for responding OrpingtonManic
Her poop is water slightly yellow

I’ve had her inside for two days - it is cold outside but she’s in a 18 degrees Celsius conservatory for 48hrs (sorry for any typos, I’m trying to respond quickly)

I am so sorry for your loss, i'm glad she was with you in her last days :hugs
Honestly thank you for being there for us… I did everything I could but these battery hens arrive so poorly & weak - she had a good free range life for 2yrs…
I have 3 Silkies (from chicks) that are 7yrs old & are so healthy… I’m not sure I can cope with anymore ex-battery hens, it’s heartbreaking 💔

Sorry for your loss, she was lucky to be able to spend what time she had with you though. I think she passed from whatever underlying issue caused her water belly. The issues that tend to cause that are usually quite serious and untreatable and production breeds are sadly more prone to some those issues. Know you did everything you could have for her
