Please help me out "newbie" alot of misc questions about fbc marons

i am pretty new to this scene i went to my local orchslands and i bought some select choice pullets and a couple rooster they have been alot of fun but since i have had a taste of this i really want to start doing this full time and breed only the best birds i can today 4-15 i bought 6 black copper marans i want to start breeding them and go to the blues and so on i just bought 3 arces of land to do this on but like i said i am totally new to this so here are some questions i have right now Thanks for the help

1.i have herd alot about the Wade Jeans line should i try to buy only this line?

2.people say they are from Wade Jean lines but how do i know that? do you get a certificate saying these are? or some type of documents? are these like dogs were you can check there pedigree?

3. does it really matter what lines they are from as long as there are a straight run b/c the 6 i bought are just straight run birds (seller not sure about lines)

4. when would be the best time to put them in outdoor pins it starting to get warm here in ks but when winter comes is there anything special i need to do besides put hay in the coop

5. i was thinking in each 10' x 6' pin putting 10 hens and 2 rooster what do you think more hens less roosters ?

You've got some great aspirations.

Wade Jeans has a great reputation but I'm certain that there are folks here who have improved those lines. Also it can be beneficial to breed in new quality blood.

I suppose you can ask when the seller bought the birds originally and ask how many generations have passed since that date.

Don't know if it matters if it's straight run or not...all that tells me is that I'm getting chicks that hatched out without sexing them.

They can have outdoor runs for most of the year but some birds will stay inside their coop if its too cold or too hot outside.

Good ratio is 1 roo for every 8 hens.

Welcome to BYC... keep reading and doing searches , (using the search function on the blue line abover or the google window on the upper right) for Black and Blue Copper Marans. You will find a wealth of information.

Assuming that you mean your birds will be penned full time, 10x6 is far too small for 12 adult birds. Marans are B-I-G. You could certainly start with that size of pen for young birds, but you will need to double the size by the time they are grown.

If you mean that that is where they will be cooped at night and occasional inclimate weather, free-ranging over a larger area most of their waking time, then 10x6 is fine. Depending on the particular birds involved, having 2 roosters in the same pen with hens may not be a good plan.
