I'm very new to the world of chickens. My family and I inherited a few Rhode Island Reds and decided to try our hand with a few Easter Eggers.

I'm the oldest of 10 kids, I'm an animal science major, and I don't the first thing about sexing a chicken.

We were told that we'd be able to sex these chickens at 8 weeks. They hatched on Labor Day, and I'm hoping someone with more experience will be able to help me out!

Here are pictures of the chicks (with their names); 2 pictures of each chick:

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!

It's hard for me to tell without seeing a side view of the feathers by the tail. Males have pointy saddle feathers.

I'm guessing here, but I'm going to say:

Spagetti - roo
Adriana - roo
Falcon - roo
Speedy - pullet
Junior - pullet
Dragon - hard to tell, but comb is pink, so I say roo.

This is solely based on comb size and color. It would be easier to sex them with a side view.

How do you tell? Is it just the color of the developing comb?

Thanks for letting me know, by the way.

Is there any hope at all that they might turn out to be hens? We can't keep any roosters. And I have to say, Dragon is my favorite.

pips&peeps :

Adriana, Falcon and Dragon are all boys. I am not sure on the rest, but leaning towards pullets on them.

I'm right on the 3 boys.

...and here's a picture of Dragon's backside (the feathers are a pretty bluish hue in the sunlight--probably means Dragon's a roo?):

Thanks again for any direction, even if it's not what I want to hear.

In the close up of Dragon. You see those feathers to the bottom left. They are curving downward. Those are saddle feathers which means he's a cockeral.

Junior has some pointy looking feathers too.

Okay, so Dragon is definitely a roo...and should I tell my sister that Adriana's name should perhaps be Adrian?

The person we purchased them from said we could bring back any roosters if we wished.

As far as the rest of them, should I wait a few more weeks to be sure of their sexes?

Thanks again!
