Well, now we think she may have Trichomonas. The symptoms she's having match up with it. (Throat problems, swelling, black around the beak, etc.)

Does anyone know how to treat this??

Canker. It is contagious via waterers mainly, and birds remain carriers.
Treatment is one metronidazole 250mg tablet given orally once a day for 5 days. Metronidazole can be purchased online as "Fishzole."

Well, I figured out the solution: Since she was only bad in the morning and fine in the evening, I figured that she must be injuring her throat some way at night. So I put half a sock on her neck and she is fine now. I've been doing that every night and every morning she is better! She must have had an abscess or something in there.

So that's how I fixed it!

So glad she is doing better!! Sometimes you have to get creative in getting them healed. You have to play detective and figure out what they are getting into or why things are the way they are. Great job!!

Ok.. after reading all the posts in this thread I've determined my lil hen has sour crop. Her breath is terrible like rotten eggs, Crop looks lop sided but no hard lumps.Actually all I can really feel is her wishbone. She hasn't been eating much at all. She does drink a little water. I picked her up this morning and turned her upside down as stated in this thread and the nasty liquid came running out. I pushed gently on her crop and it bout squirted out. Tipped her back up to let her catch her breath and repeated about 4 times and it seemed like I had it pretty well emptied out. I mixed up some probiotics in water and set it with her. Went out a couple hours later and did the same procedure and more liquid came out but not near as much. If I keep this up should she get through this or is there more I should be doing ? Also if she drinks out of the water I left her and one of my other chooks drinks out of the same waterer will she pass this problem on to others ? Thanks for any help
