Yeah it definitely has nothing to do with the handling. I’m sorry to hear the chick died, especially a favorite chick. But the poor lady can rest assured that she didn’t do anything wrong by having a favorite and handling it.

Sometimes chicks just don't make it, and nothing you could have done would have changed that. However more information would help.

What is your brooder setup like? Where is it located? What are you feeding them? When did the chick pass? Any symptoms beforehand like ruffled feathers, lethargy, bloody poop?
