To all those asking, the black chicken standing behind the Grey Barred in question was the one purchased with him as a pair of hens. I was told by the seller they were Giants, Black or Jersey, don't remember. The chicks were solid black, except for one small white spot on the back of the one in question. As it grew, he became more lightened, then the barring pattern emerged. The solid black one has several translucent colors, purple/blue/red/silver on its body. I am pretty sure the solid black is a hen, much broader body like a layer, and it hasn't started crowing![]()
Well, thanks to everyone for their great comments. Maybe we didn't solve the great mystery, but did finally get a response and found him a good home. Sure wish I could have kept his showy self, but had a neighbor complain and city says he has to go. Just funny how someone in a block house, across the street and four houses down complained he was waking her up in the mornings?? Especially since he only crowed between 6:25 to 6:35 in the morning like clock work. Wish him well at his new country home.
