please help me with gender identification

5 birds altogether? I'm pretty sure I'm seeing 4 cockerels and one pullet.

I was afraid of that. I bought 7 chicks altogether at the age of a week old. I was pretty sure that 5 were pullets and 2 were cockerels. I was right about the cockerels and gave them back 2 to the person that I bought them from. Now that they are bigger, I am finding out that I have 4 more cockerels. So out of 7 chicks, I only have one pullet. Definitely not what I wanted. I wanted hens for laying. So now I have to go back to the drawing board and start all over. UGH!!!!

If you want for sure pullets, though it can be rare to have one mix sexed, go with sex links or with pullets from a farm store for better results if you want chicks. If you want older birds, get birds that are at least 16 weeks of age as by this time saddles and hackles should be developed to tell gender. Though there are flaws with that as well as less dominate cockerels may not develop saddles and hackles as a cock should so can be miss sexed as a pullet.
