hello!

(sorry in advance for my grammar. English is not my first language)

we have the traslacion in our city and basically every year, you will see some people selling different kinds of things including baby chicks that are dyed or colored (?) and i asked my mom to buy me one because i felt bad for it and wanted to at least take care of one of them. however, my first mistake was buying one without even having the knowledge how to raise a baby chick. i don't even know how old this baby is. i just bought it on impulse. second mistake was buying only one. i did not know that they'd get lonely if there's only one of them. now the problem is my baby chick has a box with food, water, and heat pad but it keeps chirping and trying to jump out of the box. i feel bad because maybe it's lonely even though i put there a mirror so i take it out the box to comfort it and it goes straight jumping, trying to climb on top of me :')

please help!! any advice? i really don't want it to die. many say chicks like her don't even survive a day.

Hello and Welcome to BYC,

@rosemarythyme @U_Stormcrow I am tagging BYC Educators that will help you.

Can you post a picture of your baby chick so we can guess how old it might be?

What is the temperature where you are? Baby chick needs to keep warm.

Could you let it sit in your palm and have the other palm cup over it, this way it will feel warm for a little while, it will calm down. It is hard for just 1 chick and if it is still very small then it is even harder for it to keep warm.

All the best with your little chick❤️

A picture of your set up would help, as would knowing the temperatures where you have the chick right now. Does the heat pad stay on all day and night without problems?

Most likely it's just lonely and that's why it wants to get out.

Do you have a plan on what to do with it after this? Chickens aren't good house pets and you do need at least 1 or 2 others to keep it company. Do you have a friend or family member with a farm that can take it?

Get another chick or two. Chickens are herd animals and don't feel safe when they are alone, especially a baby. Your chickie needs friends. You can go back to the Traslacion or ask around and find someone who knows someone with chickens.
yes, i am planning to buy another baby chick so it'll feel less lonely thank youuu! ❤️

there is a family member who raise chickens too but he won't take my baby chick because he said it might have sickness and if my baby chick does it would affect his chickens too :')

So are you allowed to have chickens where you live and is your family ok with that? Because if you plan on keeping a few chickens they grow up very fast, so if you need to build an enclosure better start now since it can take some time to build something.

As far as temperatures you're pretty warm so the chick should be fine with just a heating pad as long as it stays on. Given the dye it's hard to tell how old it is but it looks very young, maybe 1 week old at most.
