Hatching

Sorry if I offend anyone by my ignorance. But I'm new to incubating and so far there's no signs of hatching. The only egg I thought was peeping (there was a spider-web like tiny crack in the top), after 24 hours and no progress, no sound, I probably stupidly opened the top of the egg to find this:(image attached I think)

I'm starting to think the supplier sold me infertile eggs, as two turned out to be rotten. Now have 9 eggs left in the incubator, temp is 37.5 and humidity appears ok. Was too scared to candle, did it once on day 11, just for a couple of eggs and think i saw something that looked like an embryo, just need confirmation from someone whether I should wait any longer or...

Just to confirm. Put eggs in late on the 8th Nov, it's now the 30th and signs of hatching, no peep, no pips, no rocking as far as I can tell, just want to know whether I should leave the eggs in or give up...

:welcome That is not a viable egg. It does not appear as if there was any development. Did you calibrate your thermometer ? I would candle all eggs, and if any appear to have developed give them a couple more days just in case your thermometer was reading wrong.

Thanks a lot. Sorry I'm new to incubating and dont know what to look for. Also, I have just been using a flashlight the one time i did candle, but will I need to purchase a proper candler? The late hatch may also have something to do with the fact that the incubator instructions told me to start at 38.2 then decrease in temperature, but now i not so sure that's what i should have done?

Thanks for your help. I'm pretty sure now that they were all duds. pretty relieved cause i thought i might have done something wrong. Will start again.

You don't need a special 'candler'..... just need a flashlight, those LED flashlights works great. Don't worry about hurting the eggs when your'e candling, in mother nature the hen tosses the eggs around too so that the embryo doesn't stick, so handling it won't hurt it. Sometimes eggs hatch early, sometimes late.... at day 22 I would wait another day or two, candle them first to make sure they aren't still viable before you call it quits though.

Thanks everyone for your help. I candled them all then did eggtopsies, all eggs were empty. Kinda disappointing considering I spent quite a bit of money on the eggs, but now have some new eggs from a more reliable source.
