My silky chicken is sick; when I came home this afternoon, she was lying in the bottom of the coop; I thought that was odd, then this evening I picked her up and an egg fell on the floor. She is panting for air and I offered her water; at first she drank but now doesn't seem interested in the water. She's not eating either, she just lays there. I thought maybe she is backed up with eggs or maybe she can't excrete feces. What could the problem be? She lives in a small coop in my laundry room with her sister. Do the eggs come out of the same place where she excretes feces? The only place that I see under her looks clean. She is about 8 months old, is a bantam and seems to weigh the same as always. She can't stand up. Her sister seems fine. No sign of trauma. Before she got sick she was eating chicken scratch. When I tried layer feed they both got diarrhea. Poop looks normal. My vet doesn't know much about chickens and I doubt that her clinic is open tomorrow which is Good Friday. I will check in the morning and Saturday morning. If not and my Silky survives I will take her to the vet Monday morning. I don't have an avian vet. I would like to stabilize her until then. Her coop has hay as well as wood chips. Please help! Her sister will greatly miss her if she dies! Me too!
As time passes she pants more and more for air; she seems to be suffering
Well, I have no idea what happened to her but she died last night. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Her sister seems well and I have a Silky cocherel coming next week and I will try to replace her sister because they were so close. :/
