Well it seems that my other chickens already got sick and are recovering from whatever Spaghetti has. During the weekend Godzilla had a really swollen face and nasal discharge, I thought some bug bit/stung her because it happened in a few hour on Sunday night. She was fine when I left for work, her face looked like a chipmunk when I came back about 5-6 hours later.

Today I finally went to check on my chickens since it was raining all day, and rusty has the right side of her lower jaw and face kinda swollen, and she had a runny nose yesterday. Also about 3-4 weeks ago Rusty also had problems breathing, she was gasping for air and made swallowing movements, as well as sneezing/coughing. I thought she had gameworms so I dewormed everybody, and she got well about two days after I started the treatment.

I also noticed my cockerel Roostroyer had a runny nose and a bit of a rattling breathing, but it was very light, and it went away after a few days. Now I'm thinking that a virus has been circulating among my flock, and it hit Spaghetti the hardest since she wasn't in a great shape when we got her almost two months ago, and she's been slowly recovering from overmating wounds, loss of feathers, and apparently poor diet because her poop was nasty. I haven't been able to make her eat at all yet, just drink a bit of water, so I'll try to force feed her tomorrow and just giver her some apple juice right now, and let her sleep.

You can do a swab and send it to your state lab. Call them up and order the stuff you need. It wont cost much and will help you greatly in the long run. They will tell you how to do it. I heard last year something like that (I think was called infectios bronchitis- had similar symptoms but once over the disease they were not carriers)-That was what a friend of mine shared with me from the state lab swab test. (this is second hand information but I believe is fairly accurite)

Where as if you have something like ILT you would need to vaccinate your flock and I believe (not sure) they would be carriers. I think thats a virus and the vaccination is the "cure" loosely used.

And there are other bacterial infections that can make the flock be carriers for life and pass the disease on through their eggs also. And any chickens they come in contact with.

So anyway a cheap swab test would be well worth your money. IMO

Good Luck

It sounds like coryza. The easily obtainable Sulmet will work for that. Sulmet is normally used for coccidia but also for respiratory diseases, Coryza being one strain.

I hope they get better soon. Do the birds have a bad smell to them? Coryza smells awful, is a virus and has symptoms similar to what you are describing.

That's the thing, there's no smell. When I brought Godzilla in on Sunday night, she was very warm on her face and legs, but she never developed any foul smell around her face. Spaghetti is right now still locked in my bathroom, and her face isn't swollen, she only sounds really congested and kinda gasps for air, but she can drink water, and she has no foul smell. Also her eyes didn't get any discharge, and even her nose isn't that runny right now. I'm gonna check on the state lab thing, I didn't know I could do that :O
