I'm sorry to say that he didn't make it through the night.

He seemed okay and even peeping every now and then at 3am, but he was dead when I checked on him at 6am. I opened the rest of the egg and saw that his yolk sac was 70% inside his body. It wasn't apparent how he died.
I wish I had stopped after I made a tiny hole in the top, or never opened it at all, maybe it would have been different, I don't know. I just feel terrible.

Thank you all for your help and kind words. I really appreciate it, and this forum has been a great resource. I think I will try again with an already hatched duckling from a local farm, I was really looking forward to having a pet duck.
