Please help! My female quail is limping and feathers in the back are missing!

It is possible to pair up Coturnix, as some Members here are proofing.
But for me it looks like overbreed.

Possible, that the male had a big hormone push, this season.

The limping may had been caused by an injury due to an escape attempt.

How much space do they have?

I would start by separating your birds. Since you only have two, it's likely that your male is overbreeding your female. Is there any way you can get a couple more hens?

I agree with Nabiki. I have coturnix quail, and found that the females lose feathers on the back of the neck and the back because the male breeds with them a lot. It is important to have a good ratio of males to females, at least one male to 3+ females. That way one female is not being targeted too much. I have heard of cases where people can keep a pair of quail, but in my experience it has not worked.

Honestly I can’t remember how big it is and I’m honestly bad with measurements. It does have a ramp to go up though. It’s rectangular. I searched it up and got this. 25 x 48 x 36 inches. Hope that helps.

Okay thank you so much! Do you have any suggestions on what I should do to help him not call her so much? He usually does it the second he doesn’t see her in his sight.
