Please Help! My Hen Is Egg Bound! 2ND UPDATE, Still weird things....

No egg even close to the opening. I soaked her for 15 min, I oiled my finger and gently felt around, nothing. She wont eat or drink. This of course is my favorite.

No egg anywhere. My finger was in pretty deep. Could it have broke inside? Should I sqeeze her or something? Her opening keeps opening and closing. Looks inflammed too, though I dont know for sure. I dont usually look there.

what someone else did was layed an egg bound hen on her back pushed on her abdomen behind the egg and a lubbed up finger in her vent to help it out and it coaxed her to push as well

Hi,
I don't know about an egg bound chicken. I have them - just haven't experience this in a chicken. However, I have experienced it in parrots. I bred them for years. The warm water soak is a good idea. When you are done with that - I would put her in something lined with a heating pad. Make sure the heating pad is not on a setting that is too high. Warm it up quickly by turning it on high but then turn it down. Every heating pad is different - so you have to use your own judgment. Heat helps them relax those muscles that she needs to expell the egg. Ideally a box that would allow food and water on one side and on the other side the heating pad.I would also cover the box with a heavy towel. It'll help her relax a little bit more and keep some of the heat in around her. I would not recommend trying to move or remove the egg. A broken egg inside a hen (chicken or parrot) is never a good thing. Give it a little time to let the heat work. I would do another warm bath and then into the already heated box. Good luck keep us posted. Joni
