Hi, I’m new to this group and I am very worried about my first time mama, she hatched out 11 chicks and when they got to a couple of weeks old I was told to let them roam around our farm, they had so much fun the first couple of days running around playing but then she lost some of them, I searched everywhere but could not seem to fine them she only has 5 chicks left and is now roosting I thought that meant she didn’t want to be with the chicks anymore, i didn’t want them to die so I tried to lift them into a separate pen with a heat lamp but she puffed up and flew down to them but 5 minutes later she was back up on the roost now everytime I go in she flys down to attack me but then goes back up
what should I do??? I don’t want anymore of them to die

Hi and welcome to BYC. I’d suggest separating the chicks completely from the coop and continuing to provide them with the heat lamp, food and water.

Some first-time broody pullets / hens are not the best mothers.
I went down to separate them and she was still on roost but she got scared and jumped down and is now sitting on chicks but she’s getting ready to jump back up?
