Im dual language, so it could have totally been my way of smashing sentences together while not fully focused(divided attention between responding and checking on my birds and making sure everything is locked and security camera is on lol.

I'm so sorry I didn't see your msg until now. That is so scary! I'm so sorry for all that you had to go through. As you mention the heat waves and the following sicknesses of URI, I can see how it makes sense that uri is what Pretty Bird has been dealing with. I'm currently locking up the coop and doing my evening check in but I will read through your post again! And take the time to follow the links you posted! I had a HELL of a time trying to get pretty to take his antibiotics today! He kept blocking my view with his tongue & locking gis jaw...and it seemed like i was either going to rip his beak off or shove the liquid down his trachea... So I just kept his head up and only did 0.2ml at a time with his head pointed up, barely I to the right side of his beak, keeping his head up, beak pointed to the sky, so he had to swallow, and gave him a bite of cucumber In between lol so he would swallow any residue after swallowing the drops... It worked.... Ish.. I mean, he swallowed it all with no sneezing or coughing, BUT it was stressful for us both.

I really need to find a farmer or backyard goose owner here to show me/teach me how to do antibiotic injections on a goose! And how to orally medicate them.

I’m going to try to get a video recorded and posted of how to syringe liquid down a goose’s throat tomorrow morning if it helps! I have to pin someone down to actually do the recording, hence why I haven’t done it yet.

A nine pound goose needs no less than 3 ml three times a day. Unfortunately, most people do not know this, so most people under-medicate.

And under medicating can be the same as not medicating at all.

A tiny bit is not better than none in situations/meds like this one.

I tried to get a recording showing how to give medication to a goose but the person I asked “my mother” threw a massive screaming tantrum over the simple request to hold an iPad and press the record button so I’m going to have to rope my dad into this instead,

So unfortunatly that won’t be until 5 or 6 pm pacific time.

That would be AWESOME!!! I am struggling to get my gander to take his meds .. and to top it off, he is a Canada goose hybrid and his beak seems smaller then my Africans lol. He locks his jaw and jams his tongue to the back and up, which completely obstructs my ability to see or know what I'm doing ... It freaks me out . I been doing it super slow down the right side of his throat, but it takes forever which is stressful for him... I look forward to the link to your video!!!

Lol, I understand. I'm glad your trying to make it happen either way! It's super kind of you to be willing to do this for me and all future goose parents who are scared and don't know how to properly orally madicate their geese.

Hi,
So I put him through the full antibiotic treatment and he did "throw it up" as much as he could, every time. Now that we are done and it's been a lil bit, he is barely doing the opened mouth breathing and it definitely improved, but I don't think it's cured. Now I noticed something else that has only been going on a few days (2-3 days) and I'm pretty sure it has NOTHING to do with bathing. PRETTY, and 2 of the other geese keep rubbing their heads all over themselves, but more in a "something is itching or bothering them" like a fly, or itchy ears or something. I don't think it has anything to do with grooming. This behavior is usually attached to a slight head shake, like a "my nose tickled". We also have small flies in the yard and I first thought the flies were simply getting on their nerves, but now I'm wondering if if this is something else . Idk wth is going on with my flock, but im Going to do a thorough clean out of the barn again and treat everything with diatomaceous earth. Including in everyone's food. Idk if it's the little flies that are "bugging" them of if it's something else. The other geese are not showing any other symptoms that I can tell.
I'm working on trying to learn how to inject a goose! So "throwing up the meds" will hopefully not be an issue in the future anymore...
I'm done, just want my babies to be happy and healthy and live a good life... Idk if I'm being paranoid after everything this year, or if I'm not reacting enough, but I just love them and trying to trust my gut, like I do with my kids.

The flies could definitly be irritating them, biting them and causing the itching. Mites could also be to blame.
Upper respiratory illnesses can also cause their faces to itch, whenever the dreaded mycoplasma “CRD” re-emerges mine start itching their faces more along with snicking and head shaking. Unfortunatly if mycoplasma is what’s been making pretty bird sick it, it’s a chronic issue that won’t go away, it will just keep popping back up like it does in my flock.

Crushing oregano and garlic in their water can help boost their immune system and also help to keep mites away. It isn’t a cure but it can help.
