Please help - my rooster is fading away

Hi all,

I have 1.5 year old Serama rooster who is not doing well. It started back in early May when I noticed he had green diarrhea. Over the past month his crow has gotten weaker and weaker, his poop more and more liquidy, and now he’s basically not eating. I’ve taken him to the vet and he’s still not doing well.

Things I’ve tried: Corid, Bactrim, fenbendazole, amoxicillin (per the vet), ivermectim (at the vet), IV fluids (at the vet)

After he got the shot of ivermectin and fluids at the vet he perked up for about a day, but then got worse.

Currently he has lost so much weight, seems super weak, barely crows (and when he does it’s basically no noise), eats a little, but drinks a TON. His poop is essentially yellowish/clear liquid.

What else can I do? I’m at a loss. The poor thing is super sweet and I love him a lot. I don’t want to lose him.

I’m going to call the vet again tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea?

Thanks! I absolutely adore him. His name is Ozzy (Ozymandias), and he’s so sweet.

Right now he’s in a hospital cage in my basement with a heat panel, and one of his girls to keep him company. I just got him to eat, and got some B-12 and Poultry Cell in him. Luckily he’s still fighting.

Unfortunately Ozzy just passed while I was holding him. I still have no clue what the issue was. I suspect either Marek’s or aspergillosis. Today I went to visit him and he couldn’t hold his head up. It wasn’t long after that he passed. Yesterday he was mostly fine.

I tried everything, which is why I think it wasn’t something I could cure. Poor guy was the sweetest little rooster. I will miss him a ton. I have a pair of his children, but I’m going to try to incubate some more eggs to see if I can get more.

Keeping chickens as pets is heartbreaking, but at least I know I did what I could.

I’m so sorry you lost him. I can tell that you loved him lots. I’ve lost a couple of girls to animal attacks, so I know how horrible it is to lose one of your babies. You did the best you could to take care of him, and I’m sure he was very thankful for your presence in his last days. I have a rooster, his name is Bean. I don’t know what I would do if I lost him.
