I have a black australorp that is around 6 months old and just started laying eggs about 2 weeks ago. Recently, she constantly makes coughing sounds and keeps on moving her head side to side and swinging her head around. She also has some grumbling sounds that are not coming from her mouth but from her body. Other than that, there is nothing else abnormal about the chicken that we noticed. The other 2 chickens that live with her seem fine and don't have similar symptoms. Also a note: recently about 2 weeks ago, a chicken that is around her age and lived with her died. Please help

Have you checked her crop? Is it enlarged? It looks like she might be trying to adjust the contents of her crop. I am just wondering if she might have a sour or impacted crop.

Yes, I have checked her crop and it seems normal today but it was a but big yesterday. She usually doesn't eat a lot so I'm not quite sure.

I believe she’s adjusting her crop. She’s beautiful!

How long has this been going on? Do you know if her crop is clearing overnight?
Thanks! She has been coughing for about 2 months but only about a few times a day. However, the weird movements with her head have only been going on for a few days. I think her crop is clearing overnight since it was smaller than yesterday's.

I read that coughing and shaking their head are symptoms of gapeworm. What were the other chicken's symptoms that recently passed away? I hope she recovers!
Yes, I also suspect she has gapeworm but the other chickens don't show the same symptoms so I'm not sure. The symptoms of the chicken that recently died were lethargy, loss of balance, twisted neck, and loss of weight.
