I use the little cups for guinea pigs that have the little wire hooks to hook over the wire sides of my coops for oyster shell. I also use that for the brooders, but depending on how many chickens you have, they may go empty quickly.

Just recently, I saw a post on how to make a feeder out of a plastic milk jug. Cut out two round holes on the sides for their heads to go through, and cut the top for easy filling, Voila! Cheap instant feeder! Better than the Qt jar feeders I was using, and less messy.

U sed to do this all the time. I still save the cartons. LOL Now days I have huge birds, so can't keep enough food in there at one time and still have head room, but they do work and you can just toss them and start with a fresh one.

Wait! You can do the PVC feeders and the main piece can be outside the coop! duh................what was I NOT thinking??

For less maintenance than bottle feeders, you can get water cups that you attach to a larger water source and refil less often. Plus they get a small pool of water to drink from, which is what I like about them.

I used a PVC feeder in my coop, it measures 3 1/2' X 4'. I used 2 feet of 4" PVC and put a Wye on the bottom. then I just filled the bottom of the wye up with sand until it reached the wye part where the food would be coming out. It doesnt take up much space at all and the chickens can easily get their food. As they eat more food fills in the angled part of the wye. Sorry Im new here to and cant post any pictures yet either but if you email me I can send you a photo or two!

A small tip re the rabbit bottles. I had many rabbits for many years and found that they tended to freeze and rupture in the winter. In an emergency (had to leave for work) finding that I had 6 broken bottles I tried the tip on a 20 oz soda bottle and it fit perfectly. No more ruptures since soda bottles are more flexible and MUCH less expensive. I would keep some empties handy so when I got home and they were frozen it was easy to drop into hot water thaw the tip to put on a fresh bottle. No reason it should not work for chickens.
