Please help....new to chicken hatching

How long will it take for the yolk to be absorbed?

There's no given time. Mine took a good 12 hours, but it wasn't a full yolk sac.

This was the size of mine.

If yours was busted from the egg, I'm assuming there's still a good amount of the yolk sac. Which may take a full day to absorb or better. My concern would be, if it was broken from the egg, how much blood did it loose? And what shape is the "umbilical" cord/attachment in

That last chick didn't live. now we have a chick that the mother pecked half the head and the skin is gone. what can we do?

Thank you for taking the time to reply I do have one more question that I cant seem to find the answer to. How exactly do I 'set' the eggs while waiting for the other hen to lay enough eggs? Do I store them in the refrigerator? If so, should I let them come to room temp before putting them under the broody hen? I just want to make sure i do this correctly. Thank you.

Store them upright (round end up-pointy end down) in a carton. Most people do NOT refrigerate. (There are people who regularly incubate with fridge eggs, but it is not the standard practice and I don't know the hatch rate differences). But keep the eggs stored in a cool place. 55F-65F (there abouts.) Most people insist that the eggs should be turned 3 times a day as they when incubating as well. Always have eggs warmed to room temp before setting.

Unfortunately I had to put the chick down, there was an awful smell from the head wound and it was in so much pain. I isolated the chicken who was attacking her chicks and wouldn't stop being broody for about 4 days and now she is outside running around with the other chickens. My two other hens are great moms and their chicks look better than shipped chicks!
