In my incubator there was a chick in an egg that started piping at the pointy end of the egg and had not piped any more for over a day! So I decided to help him, I did this gradually and finally when he came out I noticed he has a bloody lump on his bum?
Does any one know what's wrong? I also have another chick that has piped the same way, should I help him out too?
Any advice greatly received!

The bloody lump you are referring to is it's "cord stump" which did not detach before it hatched. This happens sometimes with assisted hatches. If it stopped bleeding put a little antibiotic cream/ointment on it and leave it. It will dry and fall off by itself. If it's still bleeding dab a little cornstarch on it first.
With the second one wait before helping. Often malpositioned chicks manage to hatch by themselves. If the chick is still stuck after more than 30 hours you can start assisting, slowly and carefully like you said and check the navel area before letting it complete the hatch. They ideally need to detach from the inner membrane and the navel needs to seal before they leave the shell. An open navel can get infected very easily. More info and that and assisted hatches here:
