I've tried everything I can think of to save this hen- 1 1/2 yr old Buff Orpington. Did a physical exam, not egg bound, no signs of egg yolk peritonitis, abdomen is normal but hen is just skin and bones, pale droopy comb, puffed up feathers, head pulled back into neck, lethargic, droopy tail. Has not laid for about a month. Eating and drinking normally, but otherwise just sleeps. Too weak to stand longer than a couple seconds. Poo is mostly water with some fiberous looking green material in it.
I found some mites and dusted her with sevin 5% a week ago and gave her NutriDrench. Treated her with Corid for 7 days. Just wormed with Safeguard two days ago, just in case it was an internal parasite.
She is not getting better and I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong with her.
Last night I discovered another BO of same age on floor of coop instead of roost, and I believe the same watery poo with green stuff in it.
I'be tried posting pics but I'm unable to from my device for some reason :(
But, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!

Does anyone know how long after dosing with Corid or Safeguard I should see improvement?
To get all worms you need to give her 0.23ml per pound for *five* days. And if she's as thin as I think she might be, you also need to tube feed her. Can you post a picture of her poop?

You can email the pictures to me if you want. My email is my BYC user name @gmail.com

Just sent you pics of hen and poo. I'm assuming from how thin she is she probably only weighs a pound or two at most. I'm on day 5 of the 7 day Corid treatment, so am I correct that I cannot give her Nutri Drench at the same time? I really feel like she needs it since she's wasting away.

Here are the pictures you sent me:

@Plucky Duck , is there any chance you can get her in to see a vet? If not, I think you need to start tube feeding her ASAP. Go to Petsmart or Petco and some Kaytee Baby Bird Food and 16" of aquarium airline, then go to Tractor Supply and get a 60ml syringe that fits on the end of the tube.

As thin and sick as she is, it would be best to keep her inside where it's quiet and warm. I will PM you my phone number.

@casportpony I weighed my girl this morning to get a baseline : 2 lb 10 oz!
I began tube feeding, can you remind me how often I should tube her and how much per day she should be taking?

That's 1190 grams, so I would shoot for at least 120ml of fluids per day. Fluids mixed with Kaytee count as fluids. How much were you able to get into her?

-Kathy

As for how often really depends on the bird. Some of mine I do twice a day, others I do 4 times a day. Always let the crop clear overnight or you run the risk of getting a crop ifection by having food in it 24/7.

Were up to 80mL. Tried 60mL first time and noticed wet feathers down her chest about 20 mins later. Not sure if she regurgitated some of it, it looked and felt like mostly water. Going to try to get 120mL in her tomorrow. Only gained .4 oz so far. Started 5 day Corid drench today at 20mg/mL. She finished her wormer today. Still no improvement in poo consistency yet. Her comb is still very pale and also very, very dry looking.
