This has not happened before, she's a healthy chicken, she just scared the heck out of me a few minutes ago by pooping out blood, which came out liquid, and then a few clots which were in it. There was no obvious poop in the mess. What is it? Does anyone know? I don't get paid til Thursday which is the earliest that I could take her to the vet! I figured maybe someone here would know what this was? The only vet that treats chickens out here is always out on house calls so reaching her in an emergency and actually talking to her is very difficult. I'd have to call and wait for her to call back, which I'll still do, but I thought I may get an answer here sooner. Please, I don't know what happened to her! She's a pullet, 17 weeks old, bantam white cochin.

Also, could stress do it? Until now her poop has been perfect. I brought her out to the coop to start introducing her, and that's when it happened. I got her with two other birds, a male cochin and an EE pullet. Both the other two are fine, and I don't have Cocci in my dirt here.

Per the above post, get her Sulmet and treat pronto. Blood in stools indicates damage to the intestinal wall has already begun. Treat ALL birds who have been in contact with her (on the same soil or in the same coop). Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Okay, I placed a call to the vet. The nurse told me to just get Sulmet from Tractor Supply. I'll just have to do that. My stress level has been somewhat reduced. At least I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for them to get vaccinated. That's a relief! I'll treat everyone and go from there. Hopefully I don't lose anyone! Thanks for your advice, I love this website.
