I went outside today and noticed my 8 week old mallard is puffed up and looks like he/she has a stuck neck! Did he/she eat something? Did another duck step on her? I'm really worried! She looks very tired yet she still wants to explore..Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Forgot to mention!! I don't have a working camera at the moment! :( He will eat and drink! He seems normal other than his shoulder feathers (really the only back feathers on him) are sticking up and his neck doesn't come out as (at all) as normal. He usually is sticking his neck out all over the place searching for food..It's more of a stiff neck than a stuck neck..He's gotten a bit better though! Thanks

My runners retract their necks when they are cold. But I doubt it is cold where you are. He may have had an injury. Can you gently get him into a lukewarm tub for observation?
Alright, I will do that! Yeah, its not cold here. What am I looking for when I put him in the tub?

See if he can relax at all, if there are any signs of injury, a few drops of blood, scratches to indicate being beat up on, attentiveness, use of his legs, look to see if he has normal duck in water behavior (diving, splashing, that kind of thing).

... How old is the Cayuga drake, could he have jumped her?

The Cayuga is 16 weeks and I don't think he could have because I keep the mallard and indian runner in a tractor so they dont go through the fence. Ill let them free range when theyre bigger. Maybe the indian runner stepped on him or something on accident because the indian runner is bigger than the mallard.

I put him in the water and even when hes out of water he acts normal, he didn't splash or act hyper and what not, just kinda went around the tub. The neck looks stiff still though,,..Doing much better! Not puffed up! Now I'm just hoping the neck will do fine! (:

I don't remember what you are feeding them, and if I have already recommended enough niacin. . . forgive me if I am repeating myself. If they are on chick starter, add 100 to 150 mg of niacin per gallon of water to increase it. Lack of niacin can cause some ducks to have weird neurological symptoms.

Yeah, they're on chick starter. I went to check on him this morning and he seemed to be doing just fine! Back to normal and all! What do you think it could have been? I'm confused but glad hes alright!
