I'm not really familiar with Meyer's but is there any chance they were offering Birchen Marans when these were purchased but are not offering them now? I'm really only familiar with Cackle because they're closest to me.

I looked at their Rare Marans package and it just sounds like they send you three of whatever type they have at the time. Right now the Marans photos are of White, Golden Cuckoos, Black Copper, Splash, and Blue. I don't think it would stretch that they may have had Birchen when you purchased yours.

If they are playing around with the blue gene in their marans it would be easy enough to check the color at hatch and pick out the oopsies that come from mixing the blue gene into birds that are of a different color. These rejects can then go into a frypan special. They are a hatchery, as long as they get the color close and the leg color close and the right comb on their leghorn and rhode island red mixes, they are good.
