Please help this hen earn a name

I just wanted to tell you - if you didn't know - there is this product called Emeraid Omnivore for Avian. It's a powder you mix with warm water for force feeding birds - including chickens. My vet gave me some recently. Since you are force feeding her already you might try it. It was kind of expensive - 55 dollars for the tub at my vet but I guess that lasts awhile. I guess it has everything they need though - it's made for debilitated animals. http://www.emeraid.com/emeraid-products/emeraid-omnivore.html If she is drinking she might drink it on her own. They said it tastes kind of sweet.

Well I hope she gets better - so good of you to take such care for her.

As she goes through this fight, can you put her on towels or some rubbery footing that is secure instead of the bare floor shown? It might help her move about easier if her feet are real secure.
Good luck with her and I'm glad you are giving her a bit more time.

Oh you're welcome. I think they might sell smaller tubs of it that are hopefully much cheaper.

On another note about heatherindeskies suggestion - when I have to take Casino to the vet I use my cat carrier. But it's slippery inside for her so I put a piece of those rubbery mesh things you put under area rugs to keep them from slipping around. It helps keep her for sliding so much in the car. If you have those around it might help in the house.

emilysteng and heatherindeskies,

She's definitely not kept on bare floor that was just for picture taking… I don’t usually set her on that floor without a towel laid down but that precaution is more for my sake than for hers. I’d rather not have chicken poo on our nice hardwood floors although I had thought of the added benefit of her being able to stabilize herself. The towels I use for her to temporarily stand on prior to feedings are the same towels I use to clean her face and neck after feedings which make them look like they’ve had fresh diarrhea smudged on them. These pictures were taken after her evening feeding which is why I removed the towel from the photo. Her usual dwelling is a large bin with pine shavings.

Thank you for taking such good care of her. I have not had experience with this problem, so have no advice on care. I also don't have a name at the moment, but would suggest something beautiful, respectful and reflective of the loving care you are giving her.

It seems fitting.

Yeah, she's got wry neck or she's a stargazer but I believe the treatment is the same. It's possible that the heavy infestation sucked the nutrients out of her and caused this condition.
