Ok Sara....I am going to email her info right now. This lady is not a ribbons and bows vet office. She keeps the cost low by just doing her job. She usually does not over medicate and so if there is a problem after, you need to call her. My mother got a kitten and the 2 local vets were $169. and $250 for shots and being spayed. This vet did it all for $56. So i hope it works out for you.

Just FYI, and you may already know...
Large breed dogs are subject to H.D. from eating out of a container at floor level.

If you have a large breed dog, keep the food container on a raised platform. This will greatly reduce the chances of the dog getting H.D.

Red, I think you're confusing this with bloat; hip dysplasia is an inherited joint disease and while it can be worsened by poor quality of diet or caused by vitamin deficiencies during gestation, how the dog is fed has absolutely no effect on the dog's hips or any other joints.

For many years, owners of large-breed, deep-chested dogs were told to feed their animals out of raised dishes to reduce the incident of bloat (air build-up in the stomach which can lead to torsion--stomach flipping/twisting on itself--and death very quickly). Studies have shown, however, that feeding from raised dishes may actually increase the incidence of bloat, and it's no longer recommended.

Yup, sounds like H.D. I'm so sorry, but at 5 months, I'm sure it's a pretty bad case. I am personal friends with a Vet in NY and maybe he can give me some advice to give you. You have plenty of good Vet schools in your area, Boston being one. I would try there. In NY we have Cornell. I would call breed clubs because there is some money out there. It's just hard to find.

I'll reply back if I find anything out.

So sorry.

That is wonderful news. Maybe insurance might be worth looking into in case she has any other problems.
