Please Help Town says my kids pet hens must go !

That's a good idea. I agree that it sounds as if he may be willing to revisit the issue.

Also, any support you can get from other citizens of your town now could prove helpful in the future. If they do have a meeting about chicken ordinances, already having petitions or folks lined up to speak positively about it could make all the difference.

Oh no! How tragic! I'll get to writing up a letter ASAP, but who am I addressing (the mayor, city official, the town itself, etc)? I hope your sons can keep their birds, they make such a cute group!

Is it against the rule to post the addresses of municipalities do we can write directly to them ourselves? A bag full of letters might have a bigger effect. The economy was definitely part of my decision to get chickens.

Ok when you're playing with city hall things work a little different than in the rest of the decent world. I know cause the town we used to live in pulled a miracle, they ok'd a bypass taking in a doz. or so farms effectively booting people off land they'd passed down for generations and they did so without anyone knowing. You see they are required to post notices of meetings and votes but the rules don't say where they have to post the info. so they stuck the notice up on bulletin boards hidden in the back of the courthouse. And used this loophole to say look they didn't even show up! Sneaky little buggers! I'll send an email on your behalf but it sounds to me like you need to find out what their rules for notification are.

I did however have 2 wonderfull ladies show up to speak. Jennifer from Carolina Waterfowl Rescue showed up to help and was a wonderfull ali. She spoke to the council about health risks pertaining to pet chickens bringing with her excellent information for town hall to ponder - then I also had Kathi a realator speak pertaing to hens and how they do NOT affect property values, and how if anything they can add to the charm of a community. The help has been great however our town - is basing desicions on myths about chickens and not facts. I am deeply saddened and hope that when the town revisits the entire animal ordinance they reconsider backyard hens.
