One of my chicks was born about a week ago and I noticed it’s umbilical cord looked like it had tore the skin near it butthole. It now has a pastey butt and when I tried to clean it off, it looks like the skin on his back has separated and it looks all infected in there. I did get a big clump of it off but I am just worried about the infection which smells awful. I don’t know what to do. I’m am kind of new at this and am still learning. Please help ASAP!

We definitely need pics to see how bad it is.
Is the chick still active and eating/drinking?

Photos would be helpful.

If there's infection, waiting is usually not the best thing to do, it needs to be tended asap.

Without seeing what you are seeing, then best I can suggest is general care for infection. Rinse/flush well with chlorhexidine or povidone iodine. Apply triple antibiotic ointment.
Take care not to pull at delicate skin it tears easily.

Keep the chick warm and drinking.

Good luck!
