Hello - I have 12 hens: 5 RIR, 6 Golden Buffs, and 1 Black Sex-link. All hens, no roos hatched back in early June 2024.
Back on February 20th, I found out that I was underfeeding protein for my flock. I immediately switched them to a 20% protein feed and have kept them on the higher protein for the past four weeks. Feather eating seemed to go down but today I noticed about 5 hens with missing feathers below their vents. These are new missing feathers.
I checked multiple birds but I don't think I saw any mites. I've never had them before so I could be missing them but I looked very thoroughly on the ladies I need check. Missing feathers are all on the same spot on the hens.
Not sure what is causing the issue and how to proceed. I don't want to treat them with chemicals for mites if that's not the issue but not sure what is causing the problem. Thank you in advance for any insight.
