Please help with duck question update GRAPHIC pics

One of my Muscovey drakes got attacked by my dog. (Grt Pyr been with my goats and poultry for 2 years, he's now on Craigslist)Had about a 9 inch gash which I managed to stitch up with the help of my DH. Can I use Tylan50 on him? If so what dosage? Any info on how to help him recover would be greatly appreciated. He's in the house in a wire dog crate now. I've got 'pedialyte'(stuff for birds) in his water. Thanks for any input!

On the birds I've heard Baytril or tetracycline, but i'm looking it up...

Sorry to hear about your duck! The same thing happened to me with a goose and my GREAT PYR dog. Raised him with the goats and birds . Never a problem. Then went to feed one day . Found him laying there with a Meglan goose he had killed.

He went into our local Trader Paper. And became a little girls birthday present. No more GP's for me

Anyway hope your duck get better soon

It's so frustrating, he's been just the best dog up until this morning. To boot, someone keeps flagging my Craigslist ad and I have nowhere to seperate him from them until someone comes to get him. The drake, who's name is Preacher seems to be resting comfortably. Just need to get some antibiotics into him and not sure what to use.

I read it's 1/8 cc per 1 lb. chicken for Tylan 50...no references included ducks.

The chickens have also gotten erythromycin, Bactrim, tetracyciln and penecilliin before...if you need those doses let me know...

I hope he get through this

Tie up the dog or stick him in the garage. Once they do it, they will do it over and over again. (Unfortunate, but true.)

Thanks a bunch, I guess I can try the Tylan50. I got some before and after pics I'll try to post later. Not too bad of a stitch job! The wound ran from the base of his head down his neck and past his shoulder area. I've got my fingers crossed. Hope it holds.

Just keep him inside in a kennel or something so he does get too active. I really hope he gets better!

I do have Baytril injectabe 5%. Is there a dosage for that??

ok so for baytril, use it orally once a day for 3 up to 5 days. Dosage is 5mg/kg so if you have 50mg/ml soln give .1ml/kg or .045ml/lb.
1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds
1ml = 1cc
Obviously double check my math...

I gave him a shot of Baytril. He drinks and is alert, but not eating. I'm going to set him outside tomorrow in an enclosure close to the other ducks. It's supposed to be nice out and I think he'll be less stressed. I tried to load pics of his wound but it won't recognize my jpeg pics for some reason. Thanks for the info on the Baytril!
