Please help with duck question update GRAPHIC pics

good luck.

were you posting on craigslist in the pet section or the farming section. sometimes the farming section flags less than the pets, but not always. just a thought. also, there are usualy few flags in "free" though not sure technically if youre supposed to have animals there but i've seen them lots.

I usually use dawn soap to wash the wound well first, bandage it, and then put a little hydrogen proxide on it to kill any other infection bacteria. I've only ever doctored over "loved" hens though. Good luck with the duck. Try to keep the wound clean and free from infection. Thats all i got, sorry.

Here are pics(hopefully)of the before and after shots of my duck after my dog got him. Then after I stitched him up. He is still doing alright. Has begun to eat. Still giving him injections of Baytril daily.

One of our drakes was attacked by dogs and we contacted our local poultry whisperer who gave us some advice I"ll pass on. She said to clean wounds with peroxide, consider using super glue to close up layers of cuts, and keep a buddy with him or a stuffed animal ( to keep him from dying from shock). Ours unfortunately died from internal injuries. Best of luck with the recovery.

I believe they were correct. We had him inside in a crate but he wasn't eating well. We put him outside in a 6 x 10 run and put one of the hens in with him and he began eat a bit of food. The others come up and visit with them. We are still keeping our fingers crossed.

I know our drakes can be mean to our dogs/roosters and go after them, are you sure it was an unjustified attack on the dogs part? Seems odd that he was used to them for that long and then snapped? Hope your duck recovers well. I normally clean the wound with beadine(sp) and cover it with nitrofurazone. They heal up great.

Chickenzoo, I'm positive it was my Pyr that was the aggressor. We caught him chasing them a couple of times(hens and drakes) but stopped it and went on about our business. On the morning we were loading him up to take him to his new sheep farm, I watched him approach them while they were laying at the pond(kiddie pool), put his paw on the back of one and start to mouth it. He's been with them since they were fuzzy ducklings and they were not afraid of him. It was heartbreaking, we loved him and otherwise he was an awesome dog.
Brad7558, thanks! We were pleased with how it turned out. My DH and I didn't know how to cull him, our only choice was to try to save him.
