Hi about three 2 weeks ago my female muscovy hatched her first clutch with us (we brought her a few months back and was told she was a great mother with her first lot) All was fine until one day I went out there and one was dead and another on its last legs, I tried my hardest to save it but unfortunately it died but as days have gone on they keep dropping off one by one a few I have gotten to in time to at least try to save them but in the end it never works.. After doing a bit of research I am pretty sure that they are dying of DHV (duck hepatitis) I have them separated from all the other birds (Ducks/chickens) and I understand that they have gotten it from the mother but I was wondering is it best to separate the ducklings from mum and bring them inside or are they all just going to die? and it best to just leave them with the mum so no one is getting stressed..? Im really unsure and I really cant handle any more of these beautiful guys dying, this is my first clutch of fresh babies and If anyone has seen the DHV symptoms it is pretty scary the way the necks spasm etc.. they mostly die pretty quick but one I kept alive all day by keeping warm on a heatbag and then overnight it passed... Is this a case of being swindled into a sick duck also or is it something that doesnt always happen? There isnt much help online with all this and i dont have a phone to chat to a vet at the moment.
